Not every red paste is natural. Tomatoes come in many types, but producers divide those used for paste into two groups: round and pear-shaped. Round tomatoes, commonly found in markets, are juicy, fleshy, red, seedless, and tasty. In contrast, pear-shaped tomatoes have a hard texture, little flesh, no color, and are less ripe. When producers make paste during the season of round tomatoes, they create an unparalleled product. However, paste made from pear-shaped tomatoes has a bright color but an unpleasant taste, indicating low quality or unripe fruit. This often raises the question: Is canned peeled tomatoes better or its paste and powder? Understanding tomato type and quality helps answer this. Additionally, some dishonest producers use synthetic dyes to enhance the paste’s appearance, but the product remains tasteless despite its bright red color—a key sign of fake products.
