Aseptic food processing solutions are essential in ensuring the long-term preservation and safety of food products. In particular, one crucial element of this process is the aseptic packaging machine, which comes in three different types, depending on the method of filling and handling the containers. These types include the following:
- Form-fill-seal machines. These can be subdivided into three types. These are
- Machines are loaded with the packaging material in the form of roll-stock (Fig. 3). Specifically, this material is a film with a thickness of <127 μm (<5 mil). Once loaded, the equipment unwinds the material, sterilizes and dries it, then forms it into a pouch. Afterward, it fills the pouch with the sterile food product and seals it within the sterile zone of the machine, before conveying it for bulk packaging and transport into retail trade. Additionally, in some cases, the roll-stock could be a laminated composite material (such as the one used to make Tetra Pak™ brick-type packages), and the machine similarly forms, fills, and seals the container as described for the pouches above.
- This machine uses roll-stock of polymeric sheets (>127 μm in thickness). In this system, the material is sterilized, heated, and thermoformed into the shape of a cup, bowl or tray, then filled and sealed within the sterile zone before bulk packaging.
The third type of machine forms the package by blow molding, filling, and sealing. In addition, this machine works in combination with an extruder, which converts polymeric resin into molten plastic. Then, the packaging machine blow molds the plastic into bottles or ampoules, fills them with the product, and seals them within the sterile zone.
2.Filling and sealing machines.
These machines process pre-fabricated containers. Specifically, the aseptic equipment sterilizes both the package and its closure. Afterward, it fills the container with a sterile product and seals it within the sterile zone of the machine. Moreover, these machines can fill various packaging types, including metal and composite cans, glass and plastic bottles and jars, as well as preformed plastic trays and bowls.
- 3.Bulk packaging machines.
These machines sterilize, fill, and seal packaging types such as kegs, drums, totes, bags, bag-in-box, and tanks, which can then be transported by trucks or trains.

You may have heard the word ‘aseptic’ many times in the food industry. Aseptic food processing solutions play a crucial role as one of the most important production methods in the industry. This process sterilizes liquid products, particularly in food and medicine, before packaging. The aseptic process ensures the creation of stable products that do not require refrigeration. Aseptic knowledge is a crucial technology in the pharmaceutical, food, and health industries. Being aware of all the details and conditions that an aseptic product must meet is a key principle that food exporters should always keep in mind.

Aseptic packaging process
The aseptic process consists of three primary steps: heat sterilization of the product, sterilization of the packaging, and preservation of sterilization during packaging. To ensure the sterilization process is effective, the aseptic process must preserve and maintain all the characteristics of the product. Moreover, it is essential to maintain these conditions throughout production. This requirement highlights the importance of ensuring that the sterilization conditions are correct and maintained throughout the entire aseptic process. Ultimately, the aseptic packaging process includes the following:
-
Sterilizing the packaging material or container and closing it before it is filled with tomato paste
-
Sterilization of equipment involved in tomato paste processing
-
Maintaining sterilization throughout the production system
