Ingredients
First, start with 1 can (6 oz.) Contadina® Tomato Paste, which is about 2/3 cup. Next, add 1/2 cup of water to thin the paste. For seasoning, include 1 tsp. dried oregano and 1 tsp. dried basil, both crushed for maximum flavor. Then, sprinkle in 1/2 tsp. garlic powder and 1/2 tsp. onion powder. To balance the taste, add 1/2 tsp. sugar and 1/2 tsp. salt. Finally, finish with 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper for a little kick.
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in a small bowl; mix well.
- Set aside about 15 minutes for flavors to develop.
VARIATION: To make Parmesan Pizza Sauce, prepare recipe as directed, except stir in 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese.
TIP: To develop a richer, sweet tomato flavor, first heat 1 Tbsp. olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Then, add the tomato paste and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1 to 2 minutes, until the paste browns slightly. Finally, remove from heat and use the paste as directed in the recipe.
NOTE: Recipe can be doubled using a 12 oz. can of tomato paste or two 6 oz. cans.
